Who are the Peaceguards?
Peaceguards are digital violence interrupters, safeguarding virtual communities in spaces like gaming and the metaverse. Similar to how violence interrupters work in physical communities to prevent conflict from escalating into violence, Peaceguards operate in digital environments to stop online disputes from turning into real-world harm, such as shootings and killings.
The role of Peaceguards can be likened to lifeguards who monitor pools to prevent accidents and save lives. Just as lifeguards are trained to identify and respond to danger, Peaceguards are skilled in detecting rising tensions and de-escalating conflicts online. By acting as mediators and providing timely intervention, they help prevent violence before it takes root, ensuring that digital communities remain safe and peaceful.
Peaceguards serve as protectors of the well-being of users in virtual worlds, acting as a crucial line of defense to keep online spaces secure and prevent digital conflicts from having real-world consequences.
Understanding and Addressing the Problem of Digital Violence
Digital violence, an insidious issue affecting individuals worldwide, encompasses a range of harmful actions conducted through digital means.
These can include online harassment, cyberbullying, digital stalking, and the non-consensual sharing of personal information or images, all of which can have devastating effects on the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of victims.
In this section, we provide comprehensive resources to validate the severity of digital violence and offer guidance on how to navigate and counteract its impact. Here, you'll find research, personal testimonies, legal frameworks, and support services that not only affirm the reality of digital violence but also empower victims and allies to take meaningful action against it.
